Police Launch Manhunt Following Deadly Attacks in Katsina State

KATSINA, Nigeria — Authorities in Katsina State have initiated a manhunt for armed bandits responsible for the killing of 11 individuals in the Kankia Local Government Area.

State Commissioner of Police Ali Umar-Fage directed the operation after a series of attacks on local communities. The incidents occurred around noon on Sunday when assailants targeted Jeka da Kolo and Kwalgoro villages, resulting in multiple fatalities.

Despite recent successes in combating criminal activities in the region, Umar-Fage expressed concern over the renewed violence. On April 29, police thwarted a cattle rustling attempt in the Gadar Yan Tulu and Kartaka villages, recovering 205 animals, including 91 cows and 114 sheep. Additionally, officers repelled an attack on Matinjin village the day before, causing the attackers to flee with injuries and abandoning eight motorcycles.

The commissioner labeled the recent assault as “cowardly and barbaric” and expressed condolences to the victims’ families. He assured the community that efforts to apprehend the perpetrators are ongoing, with additional tactical teams deployed to track the suspects.

Umar-Fage emphasized the importance of community vigilance and encouraged residents to provide information to assist security agencies as efforts continue to restore peace in the area.
