Kebbi State Police Arrest 49 Criminal Suspects, Seize Firearms and Stolen Goods

BIRNIN KEBBI, Nigeria — The Kebbi State Police Command reported the arrest of two suspected bandits and 47 additional criminal suspects in a series of operations across the state. Authorities recovered firearms, stolen property, and rustled cattle during these actions.

Commissioner of Police Umar M. Hadejia shared details of the arrests at a press briefing on Monday. Hadejia stated that the operations, conducted in partnership with the Nigerian Army, led to the seizure of 10 AK-47 rifles, three modified Beretta pistols, and approximately 33 cattle believed to be linked to the Lakurawa terrorist group.

On April 29, police mobile officers on patrol along the Bena–Mai Rai Rai road apprehended two suspects: Aliyu Hussaini, 23, from Niger State, and Sani Abubakar, 28, from Zamfara State. Authorities recovered a range of items from the suspects, including 36 rounds of live ammunition, a magazine, a Bajaj motorcycle, 264,000 Naira in cash, mobile phones, SIM cards, and memory cards.

The commissioner confirmed that both suspects admitted involvement in terrorizing villages in the area and are currently detained for further investigation.

On May 1, a patrol team intercepted two individuals suspected of a motorcycle robbery attempt along the Ambursa–Sanyinna road. During this incident, a victim was injured, and a stolen motorcycle was recovered.

In a separate incident on May 2, police arrested a suspect connected to a gang involved in the armed robbery of a traveler along the Masalaci Zarya–Jega road.

Hadejia indicated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of these criminal groups. He reiterated the police command’s commitment to combating banditry, armed robbery, and other violent crimes throughout Kebbi State.
