Severe Rainstorm Claims Lives and Destroys Homes in Kaduna State

DOKAN MAI JAMA’A, Kaduna State—A rainstorm has resulted in two fatalities and the destruction of more than 50 homes in the Dokan Mai Jama’a community, located in the Chikun Local Government Area.

Alhaji Hamisu Tukur, the village head, confirmed the incident, describing the storm as both “violent and sudden.” Many residents have been left displaced and without shelter.

“The rainstorm came with very strong winds, damaging over 50 houses in the community. We have also recorded two deaths,” Tukur stated.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the heavy rainfall began around 6:41 p.m. on Monday, leading to uprooted roofs, collapsed walls, and significant property damage.

Residents were seen attempting to salvage their belongings from the wreckage, while others sought temporary refuge with neighbors and family members.

In light of the destruction, affected households have called on the Kaduna State Government, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for immediate relief and humanitarian assistance, as many families remain vulnerable and exposed.

The storm also impacted surrounding areas within Chikun LGA, exacerbating the overall damage in the region.
