Man lands in prison for stabbing neighbour

Abuja High Court Orders Remand of Man Accused of Stabbing Neighbor

ABUJA — A High Court in Abuja on Wednesday ordered the remand of a 32-year-old man, Israel Friday, who faces charges of attempted culpable homicide for allegedly stabbing his neighbor during an argument.

The prosecution, led by Counsel Donatus Abah, argued that Friday poses a threat to the victim, Theophilus Edache, if released on bail. The court heard that the incident occurred in the Angwan Tiv area of Lugbe, where Friday is accused of inflicting serious injuries that ultimately led to the amputation of Edache’s left arm.

During the proceedings, Justice M. S. Idris presided over arguments from both sides and scheduled a ruling on the bail application for May 13. Friday has pleaded not guilty to the charges, which are in violation of sections 229(1) and 248 of the Penal Code.

Defense attorney Noah Abdul requested bail on grounds that the offense is not classified as a capital crime. He argued for Friday’s release under liberal terms.

In response, Abah submitted a counter affidavit opposing the bail request, highlighting the severity of the victim’s injuries and the increased vulnerability Edache now faces. He argued that releasing Friday could pose further danger to the victim.

The court is expected to review the bail application and hear further arguments during the next session.
