FCT: Ongoing projects must be ready for Tinubu’s 3rd anniversary – Wike to contractors

FCT Minister Urges Timely Completion of Infrastructure Projects Ahead of Presidential Anniversary

ABUJA, Nigeria — Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), called on contractors to adhere to project deadlines as preparations accelerate for the commissioning of key infrastructure projects in celebration of President Bola Tinubu’s upcoming third anniversary in office.

During a tour of various ongoing projects on Wednesday, Wike inspected the Jahi–Gwarimpa Interchange, the Airport Road to Kuje corridor, the Kuje to Gwagwalada road, the City Gate project, and the Wuse/Central Area link roads.

While reviewing the Jahi Interchange, managed by CBC Global, Wike expressed optimism about the project’s near completion. “We are very hopeful… in the next two weeks, we are sure that we will reach over 95 percent completion,” he stated. He praised the quality of work but cautioned that timely delivery of certain sections, particularly the bridge, remained a concern. “I am hopeful they will keep their promise,” he added.

With regard to the Airport Road to Kuje Junction project, executed by Arab Contractors, Wike was confident it would be finished soon. “We are hopeful that by the end of this month, we may be wrapping up that job,” he remarked. He also commended progress on the Kuje to Gwagwalada road, noting that construction was proceeding steadily.

Wike highlighted the City Gate project, managed by Julius Berger, as a significant development set to enhance the entry point into Abuja. “In the next month, anyone coming to Abuja will see a different landscape,” he said.

The minister emphasized the necessity for all contractors to meet government schedules for project inaugurations ahead of the anniversary celebrations. “These are projects scheduled to be inaugurated on the third anniversary of this administration,” he stressed.

On the Wuse/Central Area link roads, Wike acknowledged the quality of work but reiterated concerns about completion timelines.

Significant projects slated for inauguration during the anniversary period include water treatment plants in Bwari and Ushafa, infrastructure in Katampe, Gishiri, and Gaduwa, as well as the CLC project and various road developments.

Wike also noted that the City Gate project would feature permanent security measures, including 24-hour surveillance and AI-enabled monitoring systems.

“The FCT Administration will continue to work closely with contractors to ensure timely project delivery,” Wike affirmed, underscoring the importance of adhering to schedules to fulfill Abuja’s transformation agenda.
