Windstorm Causes Extensive Damage in Kebbi State Communities
A severe windstorm has impacted several communities in the Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State, causing significant destruction to homes, food storage facilities, and personal property estimated in the millions of naira.
Faruku Abubakar Maisudan, the representative for Suru Constituency in the Kebbi State House of Assembly, reported the extent of the damage following a site visit. He identified the affected communities as Sambera, Jeroki, Becinga, Nassarawa, Tunga Soja, Tauken Mage, Tunga Muminu Oro, and Ciwan Wanzam.
The storm struck on Wednesday night, displacing numerous families as it damaged or completely destroyed their homes. Fortunately, there were no reported fatalities. Maisudan expressed his condolences to the affected residents, urging them to view their situation as a challenge that can be endured.
He committed to bringing the matter before the Assembly and Governor Nasir Idris, advocating for prompt government assistance. “I will ensure your condition is presented to the appropriate authorities so that immediate support can reach you without delay,” he stated.
Officials from the Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency, who joined Maisudan on the assessment tour, also guaranteed a swift response and the provision of relief materials for the displaced residents.
