Troops Retrieve Abandoned Vehicle Following Terror Ambush in Katsina State

MATAZU, Katsina State — Troops from the Quick Reaction Force linked to the 17 Brigade recovered an abandoned vehicle after suspected terrorists ambushed commuters along the Karaduwa-Matazu road in the Matazu Local Government Area.

On May 4, 2026, a distress call was made to the Quick Reaction Force at Forward Operating Base Matazu regarding the ambush. The troops quickly mobilized to the scene; however, the assailants fled upon seeing the advancing forces.

Subsequent efforts to pursue the attackers did not result in any contact.

During a search of the area, the troops located an ash-colored Volkswagen Golf, with the registration number KJA 743 FP. The vehicle was reportedly traveling from Kafin Soli to Matazu at the time of the incident.

The vehicle has since been transferred to the Divisional Police Officer of Matazu, SP Ahmed Hamisu, for further investigation.

Authorities have indicated that calm has returned to the region, and security monitoring remains ongoing.
