Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Attack on Jega Couple

Kebbi State Police have apprehended a 25-year-old man, Idrisu Mohammed, in connection with the alleged homicide of a couple in Asarara Village, located in the Jega Local Government Area.

The arrest follows a police manhunt initiated after the brutal killing of Muhammed Haruna and his wife, Habiba Muhammed, who were attacked in their home during the early morning hours of May 9, 2026.

Bashir Usman, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the details of the case in a statement on Saturday. He reported that the couple was assaulted around 5:15 a.m. when they were asleep. Both victims sustained life-threatening injuries and subsequently succumbed to their wounds.

“The couple was attacked with a cutlass while asleep at approximately 5:15 a.m. on May 9, 2026, in Asarara Village, Kimba District, Jega Local Government Area. They died as a result of their injuries,” Usman stated.

Investigators have reportedly gathered substantial evidence linking Mohammed to the crime, including indications that he had threatened the couple with a cutlass on multiple previous occasions.

The case has since been assigned to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and legal proceedings.
