Troops arrest suspect with over 1,341 empty ammunition casings in Borno

Borno State security operatives have arrested a suspect in possession of over 1,300 empty ammunition casings. The arrest followed an explosion in the Kaleri area of the Jere Local Government Area.

The incident was reported by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X. Authorities acted on a tip regarding the blast, prompting a response by security forces and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

Upon arrival at the scene, officers apprehended one individual who reportedly possessed 1,341 empty cases of 12.7 x 99mm ammunition, along with 47 ammunition boxes. The operation was coordinated by Ibrahim Mohammed, a Special Adviser to the Borno State Government and former commanding officer of the OC Crack unit.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the items may be connected to the suspect’s brother, a soldier stationed at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri. It is alleged that the soldier removed the warheads from live ammunition and diverted the empty casings for illegal sale.

The suspect remains in custody while investigations continue to reveal additional details and any potential networks involved in the case.
