Bandits kill two, injure dozens in fresh attack on Plateau community

Attack in Plateau State Leaves Two Dead, Several Injured

At least two individuals were killed and multiple others injured during an attack in Kyeng village, located in the Bachi District of the Riyom Local Government Area in Plateau State.

The incident occurred on Sunday night, reportedly involving suspected Fulani bandits who invaded the village and opened fire for several hours.

Barr. Solomon Mwatiri, the National President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), confirmed the attack in a statement released Monday morning. He condemned the deaths of the two Berom youths, which followed a recent wave of violence in nearby Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, where more than ten people were killed in a separate incident.

The statement, issued by the BYM’s National Publicity Secretary Rwang Tengwong, indicated that the assailants ambushed residents while they were asleep. The group characterized the attack as unprovoked, expressing frustration that appeals for assistance from security agencies went unanswered, leaving victims vulnerable to the attackers.

The deceased have been identified as Peter Dung, 22, and Amos Bele Danbwarang, 19, who were reportedly shot by the assailants before they fled into nearby bushes.

In its statement, BYM condemned the attack, calling it “barbaric” and a continuation of violence against innocent communities in Plateau State.

“The killing of these young men is painful and unacceptable,” the association stated. “It reflects the continued assaults on peaceful communities and innocent residents.”

The group called for security agencies to pursue the attackers, demanding their arrest and the delivery of justice. Additionally, BYM urged the government at all levels to implement decisive measures to address the ongoing violence and insecurity affecting communities in the region.
