Gunmen Attack Yankamaye Community in Kano State, Three Dead
KANO, Nigeria — Gunmen attacked the Yankamaye community in the Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State on Monday night, resulting in the deaths of three residents and prompting many villagers to flee their homes.
According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants stormed the area late in the evening, firing weapons indiscriminately, which led to widespread panic among residents.
Sani Bala, a member of the House of Representatives for the Ghari and Tsanyawa Federal Constituency, confirmed the fatalities in a statement shared online. He reported that three bodies had been recovered after the assault.
“By the time of this update, three people have been confirmed dead,” Bala said, expressing concern over the escalating security situation in the region.
Resident Saifullahi Sulaiman Sorodaya described the sudden nature of the attack, stating that residents had no choice but to flee for their safety. “The attackers entered the town shooting without stopping, and people had no option but to run for their lives,” he remarked.
Another local, Madahuru Isah Ibrahim, reported that several individuals sustained injuries during the attack and were transported to medical facilities for treatment.
In the aftermath, residents of Yankamaye and surrounding communities called on security agencies to enhance surveillance and deploy additional personnel to prevent future attacks.
As of the time of this report, officials had not issued a formal statement regarding the incident.
