Two Customs Officers Killed in Attack in Kebbi State
GENDENE, Kebbi State — Suspected members of a terrorist group attacked a checkpoint early Wednesday morning, resulting in the deaths of two marine Customs officers in the Bagudu Local Government Area.
The assault occurred around 3:00 a.m., as the gunmen targeted the officers while they were on duty. A local resident, Bello Shata, reported that one of the deceased, a senior officer, was set on fire by the attackers while he slept.
In addition to the fatalities, sources indicated that the assailants destroyed the officers’ operational vehicle during the attack. Meanwhile, two villagers—a man and a woman—sustained gunshot wounds and are currently undergoing treatment at a healthcare facility, the location of which has not been disclosed.
The Kebbi State Police Command is investigating the incident. SP Bashir Usman, the police spokesperson, stated that a formal statement will be released after further details are gathered.
“We will issue a statement once we get the full report,” he said.
