Zamfara Assembly Extends Suspension of Seven Lawmakers

The Zamfara State House of Assembly has voted to extend the suspension of seven lawmakers for an additional legislative session due to allegations of misconduct and violations of House rules.

The decision was made during a plenary session led by Speaker Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki. A statement from the Speaker’s office spokesperson, Bello Madaro Kurya, indicated that the suspended lawmakers are under ongoing investigation related to the alleged infractions.

The motion for the extension was introduced by Majority Leader Bello Muhammad Mazawajje and seconded by Ibrahim Garba Liman. Mazawajje cited ongoing court proceedings as the reason for the extension, stating, “While the initial suspension period had lapsed, the ongoing litigation regarding the matter necessitates a formal extension of the disciplinary action pending judicial determination.”

Following what the Assembly characterized as a unanimous decision, the Speaker confirmed the extension of the suspensions. The lawmakers affected by this decision are Bashir Abubakar, Bashir Aliyu, Nasiru Abdullahi, Faruku Musa Dosara, Amiru Ahmad Keta, Ibrahim T. Tukur, and Bashir Bello.
