NDLEA Arrests Suspect for Concealing Ammunition in Garri Bags
Operatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) apprehended a suspect on May 12, 2026, for allegedly transporting military-grade ammunition concealed in bags of garri along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.
The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Abdullahi Hassan, was arrested during a routine patrol in Kaduna State. According to an NDLEA statement released on Sunday, officers intercepted a significant cache of ammunition hidden within fresh cassava granules, commonly known as garri.
The agency reported that a total of 1,989 rounds of RLA 7.62mm ammunition were recovered from Hassan. “Abdullahi Hassan was apprehended while transporting 1,989 rounds of ammunition carefully hidden inside bags of garri,” the statement noted.
Following the arrest, both the suspect and the recovered ammunition have been handed over to another security agency for further investigation. This incident is part of multiple operations conducted by the NDLEA across the country over the past week.
