BREAKING: National security breach: Court grants El-Rufai N100m bail with stringent conditions

Federal High Court Grants Bail to Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai
ABUJA — The Federal High Court has granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai in the amount of 100 million naira amid allegations of breaches of national security.
During a ruling on Monday, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik outlined a series of conditions that El-Rufai must meet prior to his release. He is required to provide one surety in the same amount, who must reside in either the Maitama or Asokoro districts of Abuja. The surety is also mandated to deposit the original Certificate of Occupancy for a property at the court registry.
Additional stipulations for the surety include being a federal civil servant at Grade Level 17 or higher and submitting evidence of salary payments for at least three months, verified by a bank manager’s letter within the court’s jurisdiction. The court further requires the surety to submit an affidavit of means, enter into a bail bond, and provide a recent passport photograph.
As part of the bail conditions, El-Rufai must deposit all valid international passports with the court. He is also obligated to submit a verification letter from his surety’s department and a tax clearance certificate dated within the last six months.
Justice Abdulmalik ordered El-Rufai to report to the headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS) every last Friday of the month at 10 a.m. to sign an attendance register until the conclusion of his trial. The judge warned that non-compliance would result in automatic revocation of his bail.
Additionally, the court instructs El-Rufai to provide a letter of attestation from the Chairman of the Kaduna Traditional Council and mandated an expedited trial of the charges brought against him by the Nigerian government.
