Oseni Critiques Timing of Osun Account Reinstatement
Rufai Oseni, anchor of Arise Television’s The Morning Show, stated Friday that the decision to unfreeze the Osun State Government’s bank account came too late, asserting that the intended damage to the state’s reputation had already been accomplished.
During the broadcast, Oseni expressed concern that the controversy surrounding the account freeze had fostered a public narrative that associates the state government with corruption allegations. He emphasized that even if federal authorities reverse the action, the reputational harm has already occurred.
“No matter how you look at it, it confirms a lot this morning, and it goes back to talk about our institutions,” Oseni said.
He further suggested that the situation has resulted in a form of “blackmail” of the Osun State Government, drawing parallels to former FBI Director James Comey’s actions during the investigation into Hillary Clinton prior to the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
“I was telling Wilson Uwujaren yesterday that the EFCC has already achieved its aim. Even if the president reverses this, they’ve already achieved it,” he stated.
Oseni maintained that undoing the account freeze would not change the perception created by the allegations, describing the reversal as “a little too late” to mitigate the damage.
He pointed out that search engine results associating Osun State with terms like “frozen account” and “corruption allegations” indicate that the narrative has firmly taken root in public discourse.
