Why I didn’t go down on my knees when I proposed to my wife – Made Kuti

Afrobeat Artist Made Kuti Discusses Marriage Proposal Dynamics

Afrobeat singer Made Kuti, the son of the late music legend Fela Kuti, recently shared his perspective on marriage proposals during an episode of the Timeless Podcast, which aired on the Nix Network YouTube channel.

The 30-year-old artist revealed that he chose not to kneel when proposing to his wife, Inedoye Onyenso. He emphasized that he views marriage as a mutual decision rather than a one-sided plea.

“I did not go down on my knees when proposing to my wife because I told her it was a mutual decision. We are not begging each other to be with each other,” Kuti explained.

Made Kuti and Inedoye Onyenso tied the knot in a private ceremony in Lagos in November 2023. The couple has a unique connection, as Kuti identified Inedoye as his former “school daughter.”

In 2025, Made Kuti addressed criticisms regarding their differing ethnic backgrounds, particularly accusations of “mixing blood.” He described such ethnic bigotry as a “slave mentality.”
