OAU Senate approves resumption, beginning of academic activities

Obafemi Awolowo University to Resume Classes on May 19, 2026
ILE-IFE—Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) announced that students are set to resume classes on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, following a three-week mid-semester break.
The decision was communicated in an internal memorandum by I.B. Aronkola, Principal Assistant Registrar of the Senate Division, which was sent to all Deans of Faculties after a special Senate meeting held on May 14.
According to the memorandum, the Senate reviewed the recent suspension of academic activities, which was initially implemented to address concerns surrounding a newly introduced transportation system on campus. The break was intended to allow university administration sufficient time to resolve these issues.
The Senate noted that discussions with relevant stakeholders had effectively addressed the concerns that led to the suspension. As a result, the Senate has resolved that academic activities will resume immediately after the break.
“Senate agreed that students should resume on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, and all academic activities would commence immediately,” the memorandum stated.
