EFCC Arraigns Three for N42 Million Fraud in Maiduguri

Maiduguri – The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has brought charges against three individuals in connection with an alleged contract fraud totaling N42 million.

Aisha Alkali Wakil, Sa’idu Tahiru Daura, and Prince Lawal Shoyede appeared in Federal High Court on Thursday before Justice Jude K. Dagat. They face a two-count amended charge related to obtaining money under false pretenses.

The EFCC maintains that the defendants fraudulently collected N42 million from ABAKS Ventures Nigeria Limited by misrepresenting their involvement in a sub-leased contract associated with Complete Care and Aid Foundation, a non-governmental organization. According to the commission, the defendants falsely claimed that the contract had been awarded to Sani M. Adamu of Sani Smart Global Ventures.

During the proceedings, Wakil and Shoyede pleaded not guilty, while Daura acknowledged the charges against him.

Prosecution counsel N.T. Iko urged the court to impose a sentence on Daura and requested an adjournment to initiate the trial for the other two defendants.

Justice Dagat adjourned the case until June 25, 2026, for sentencing and the commencement of the trial. The court ordered that all three defendants be remanded at the Maiduguri Maximum Correctional Facility pending further developments in the case.
