Fubara vows to complete Rivers projects despite political tensions

Rivers State Governor Pledges Commitment to Infrastructure Development
PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria — Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing ongoing development projects throughout the state, despite challenging political circumstances.
During an inspection of the 7.1-kilometer bypass road under construction near the Port Harcourt International Airport, Fubara emphasized the importance of the project in facilitating access for local communities. The visit took place on Friday.
The bypass road, inaugurated in December alongside the airport road, was initiated in response to frequent protests by nearby communities, which have often blocked access to the airport to voice dissatisfaction with airport management.
“We’ve always had these issues where the community, whenever they want to express dissatisfaction over some activities of the airport authority, will block the airport road,” Fubara stated.
He noted that such disruptions have adversely affected movement and economic activities in the region. The bypass road aims to separate community traffic from airport operations, allowing residents easier access while ensuring uninterrupted travel to the airport.
“The purpose of the bypass is so that the community can have its own entrance, while the airport road will remain only for airport activities once the road is completed,” the governor explained.
Fubara added that construction is currently about 65% complete and expressed optimism that the contractors will finish the project by October.
Assuring residents of his administration’s focus on development, Fubara stated, “I want to assure our people that, notwithstanding the situation of things, one thing that we have promised everyone is that every good work that we have started, by the special grace of God, we will continue and complete.”
