Police rescue 13 abducted Young Shall Grow Motors’ passengers

Edo State Police Rescue Abducted Passengers

Benin City, Edo State – Operatives of the Edo State Police Command successfully rescued 13 passengers of Young Shall Grow Motors, who were abducted by gunmen while traveling to Lagos State.

The victims were traveling from Akwa Ibom State when they were kidnapped on May 9, 2026, along the Benin-Sapele Road, near Ologbo. The incident was confirmed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, in a statement released on Saturday, May 23.

Ikoedem reported that during the abduction, one female passenger sustained gunshot wounds. Following the incident, police launched a coordinated rescue operation that included bush combing and aerial surveillance through the use of drones.

Initial efforts led to the rescue of five passengers, consisting of two adults and three children. On May 10, police engaged the kidnappers in a gunfight, resulting in the recovery of two more victims. All remaining abducted individuals were later rescued unharmed.

Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika praised the bravery and determination of the operatives involved in the operation. He assured the public that the Command remains committed to ongoing intensive search efforts to apprehend the kidnappers.

Reports indicate that the abductors contacted the victims’ families, demanding a ransom of N30 million for each individual.
