Eid-el-Kabir: Military urges vigilance, says security measures in place across North East

Nigerian Military Enhances Security Ahead of Eid-el-Kabir Celebrations
The Nigerian military, under Operation Hadin Kai, has called on residents of the North East to remain vigilant as preparations begin for the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations. Authorities have assured citizens that robust security measures are in place to facilitate a peaceful observance of the festivities.
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), released a statement on Monday highlighting the military’s commitment to safeguarding the region. The Eid-el-Kabir celebrations are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 28, 2026.
The Theater Command has implemented extensive security protocols to ensure a safe environment for all participants. “Protecting lives and property across the region remains our top priority,” the statement read.
Despite these measures, the military cautioned of potential threats during the celebrations. Intelligence reports suggest that factions of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province may attempt to target civilians using suicide bombers or improvised explosive devices in densely populated areas.
The statement emphasized that these threats are being proactively addressed. Troops have been strategically deployed to high-risk locations, and surveillance operations have been intensified. Security forces are coordinating closely with other agencies, including the Civilian Joint Task Force and community vigilance groups, to mitigate risks.
In addition to heightened security, the military has issued guidelines for residents to ensure a safer celebration. Citizens are encouraged to conduct Eid prayers and festivities near their homes and in familiar locations. They are also advised to remain alert in busy public spaces, such as markets and prayer grounds, and to report any suspicious activity to security agencies promptly.
