Sokoto Hisbah Board Conducts Raids, Arrests 17 in Anti-Immorality Operations
SOKOTO, Nigeria — The Sokoto State Hisbah Board announced the arrest of 17 individuals during recent raids targeting suspected centers of immoral activities across various locations in the state capital.
In a statement released on Sunday, May 24, 2026, the board indicated that the operation was part of its ongoing campaign, “Operation Tsaftace Birnin Shehu,” which aims to promote ethical conduct within the state.
The operation was led by Imam Sirajo Abubakar, the acting Commander of the Sokoto State Hisbah Board and Director of Da’awa. Raids took place in several areas including Minannata, Rijiyar Shehu, Majema, Sokoto Silame, and Mabera within the metropolitan region.
The statement emphasized that these efforts are designed to address activities deemed immoral and opposed to the cultural and legal standards of Sokoto State.
Authorities have not released the names of those arrested or confirmed whether any charges will be filed against them.
