Kwara State Police Confirm Attack on Police Headquarters and Emir’s Palace

Kwara State Police have confirmed an armed attack by suspected bandits early Saturday morning on the Yashikira Police Divisional Headquarters and the palace of the Emir of Yashikira in the Kaiama Local Government Area.

The incident, which took place around 2:00 a.m., involved the assailants setting parts of the Emir’s palace on fire and abducting ten individuals, according to a statement released by the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on May 25, 2026.

While the police operatives successfully defended the divisional headquarters from the assault, the violence has raised concerns about security in the region.

In response to the attack, Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi has initiated a comprehensive security operation involving various law enforcement agencies, forest guards, and local vigilantes aimed at rescuing the victims and apprehending those responsible for the assault.

“These criminals have declared war against peace-loving citizens, and we are fully prepared to hunt them down relentlessly,” Adekimi stated in the report.
