Gov Otu threatens to activate recalling of indolent, arrogant lawmakers from National Assembly

Governor Otu Threatens Recall of Ineffective Lawmakers in Cross River State

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has announced plans to initiate the recall of any National Assembly or State House of Assembly members who fail to adequately represent their constituents. During an address to members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Otu expressed particular concern for lawmakers who display arrogance and detachment from the needs of the people.

“If you were born with arrogance, please just drop that ticket here,” Otu stated, directing his remarks towards party members, including those discontented after recent primary elections.

He emphasized the importance of party unity and urged all members to respect decisions made for the common good. “The party is supreme,” he said, warning lawmakers against ignoring their constituents post-election.

Looking ahead, Otu hinted that a structured recall process would be activated after the next cycle of elections. “Anyone whom the people say they are tired of will be brought back home,” he asserted, signaling a commitment to enhanced accountability for elected officials.

Otu also cautioned former party aspirants not to defect to opposition parties, specifically naming the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He implied that such moves would lead to difficulties and political stagnation, characterizing these parties as “kwashiorkor-ridden”—indicative of a lack of substance and vitality.

“I don’t want anybody to suffer the fate I suffered,” he warned those considering a shift to opposition, emphasizing that doing so would only lead to unnecessary challenges.

He appealed to aggrieved members to remain unified, assuring them that all grievances could be addressed in due time. Otu reiterated that the recent primaries were conducted in a fair manner, devoid of favoritism.

“The situation where you insult and look down on the party will not be tolerated,” he cautioned, reinforcing his stance on maintaining discipline within the APC. The governor concluded his remarks by highlighting the party’s capability to handle political matters and the need for collective responsibility among its members.
