Yobe Police Rescue Abandoned Newborn, Arrest Suspected Motorcycle Thieves
The Yobe State Police Command reported the rescue of a newborn baby girl, approximately one day old, who was found abandoned in Kallalawa Village. This information was shared by the Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, in a statement on Monday.
Following the discovery, the infant was taken to the Special Baby Care Unit at the General Hospital in Damaturu. Medical examinations confirmed that the child is in stable condition. The police have since handed her over to the Social Welfare Department for proper care and protection. Investigations are underway to locate the mother and determine the circumstances of the abandonment.
In a separate case, police operatives arrested two suspects involved in motorcycle thefts in the Gulani and Jakusko Local Government Areas. One suspect was apprehended while riding a motorcycle reported stolen on May 25, 2026, by 27-year-old Alhaji Mamman from Kaliyari Fulani Settlement, Bursari LGA. The motorcycle had been taken from near a shop along Gwiokura Road around 4:30 p.m. At the time of his arrest, the suspect reportedly confessed during interrogation.
Another suspect, Mohammed Garba from Bursali Village in Gulani LGA, was also arrested for allegedly snatching a red Boxer motorcycle valued at ₦400,000. This incident occurred on May 23, 2026, when Garba, posing as a passenger, deceived the rider during their trip from Maiduwa Village to Ngalda Town in Fika LGA.
Garba was apprehended on May 24 following a distress call and collaboration with local vigilantes. The victim identified him, and he has since confessed to the crime.
Investigations are ongoing, and both suspects are expected to be charged in court.
