Kwara police arrest three suspected vandals, armed robbers

Three Arrested for Vandalism and Armed Robbery in Ilorin

ILORIN, Nigeria — Three suspects have been apprehended in connection with vandalism and armed robbery incidents in the Ilorin metropolis, the capital of Kwara State.

According to State Police Command spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, the arrests took place on Tuesday following an operation by the newly established Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU). The operation was conducted in response to public concerns regarding criminal activities along the Asa Dam/Dangote Road area.

“Acting on sustained surveillance and credible intelligence, our operatives responded to suspicious movements in the Tanke area in the early hours of Tuesday, May 27, 2026, leading to the arrest of the suspects,” Adeyemi said. The suspects are alleged to be part of a criminal syndicate responsible for the vandalization of government-installed solar light infrastructure and other robbery-related offenses.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects belong to a larger network engaged in various criminal activities across key locations in Ilorin.

Items recovered from the suspects during the operation include two locally made pistols, pliers, and various substances believed to be illicit drugs used in their activities.

The police are conducting further intelligence-led operations to identify and apprehend additional members of the syndicate, as well as those who may be receiving stolen goods.

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, praised the proactive measures taken by the VCRU, emphasizing the importance of ongoing surveillance in crime hotspots. He assured the public that police efforts will continue to ensure the safety and security of residents, declaring that no criminal elements will be permitted to operate freely in the state.
