Police nab suspected “one-chance” robbers, recover stolen phone in Ogun

Two Suspected “One-Chance” Robbers Arrested in Ogun State
OBANTOKO, Ogun State — Two men suspected of involvement in a “one-chance” robbery scheme have been apprehended by the Ogun State Police. The arrests followed a robbery incident that targeted a female victim and her two sisters.
The suspects, identified as Odunuga Kehinde and Olajide Rasak, were taken into custody after a distress call on Thursday alerted police to the robbery. According to reports, the victims had hailed a Nissan Micra taxi painted in state colors while traveling from the Somorin area to NNPC Kuto. They were en route to catch another vehicle to Lagos after attending a wedding anniversary.
Witnesses reported that, upon reaching the OLG Somorin area, the taxi’s occupants diverted from the designated route, became aggressive, and expelled the passengers from the vehicle. After disembarking, one victim discovered that her iPhone 12 Pro had been taken and promptly raised an alarm.
DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the police spokesperson for Ogun State, confirmed the incident. He noted that officers from the Obantoko Division responded rapidly to the scene and arrested the two men. Babaseyi emphasized that the police’s quick action helped avert potential mob violence from agitated community members.
He stated, “The swift intervention of our operatives prevented possible mob action. The stolen iPhone 12 Pro was recovered from the suspects, although the vehicle used in the alleged robbery fled the scene.”
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to the crime. The recovered phone has been returned to its owner, and an investigation is underway to capture other members of the suspected criminal group.
Babaseyi urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity through the police command’s emergency contact lines or the Gateway Shield platform.
