Insecurity: Creation of state police long overdue – Makinde

Governor Makinde Calls for Establishment of State Police

IBADAN, Nigeria — Governor Seyi Makinde has asserted that the creation of state police is overdue, emphasizing its potential to address rising insecurity in the country.

During a speech at the state primary elections for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) on Thursday, Makinde urged the federal government, led by President Bola Tinubu, to take prompt action towards establishing state police forces.

“The establishment of state police would improve local intelligence gathering and enhance the capacity of states to respond swiftly and adequately to security threats within their domains,” Makinde said.

He highlighted that a state police force could strengthen the overall security infrastructure and help to mitigate criminal activity nationwide.

Makinde’s remarks come amid growing concerns about security challenges in various regions of Nigeria, and he reiterated the urgency for a structured response from the federal government.
