Police arrest four over alleged N9.29m Hajj scam in Kebbi

Kebbi Police Arrest Four for Alleged Hajj Scam
The Kebbi State Police Command has apprehended four individuals accused of defrauding two prospective pilgrims out of 9.29 million Naira while promising to secure Hajj slots for the 2026 pilgrimage.
In a statement issued Friday, police spokesperson SP Bashir Usman identified the suspects as Aminu Hassan Zauro, Tabiu Abubakar, Usman Attahiru, and Mustapha Sani Zauro. Their arrest followed a complaint filed by the Kebbi State Pilgrims Welfare Agency.
Usman also reported that four additional suspects—Bello Jos, Atiku Stores, Umar Gimba, and Usman Bunza—are still at large. He noted that the principal suspect, Aminu Hassan Zauro, allegedly collected 8.6 million Naira from one victim, promising two Hajj seats for the upcoming pilgrimage.
Additionally, Usman stated that Zauro received 690,000 Naira from another victim as a deposit for a Hajj slot and later provided counterfeit pilgrimage materials, including bags and medical records.
“The command recovered all the fake materials presented to the victims,” the statement revealed, adding that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects and bring all involved parties to justice.
Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, CP Umar Muhammed Hadejia, urged aspiring pilgrims to ensure that transactions are conducted solely through authorized officials of the Kebbi State Pilgrims Welfare Agency to avoid falling victim to scams.
