‘There is money for politicians, so there should be money for workers’ — Sowore

Rights Activist Omoyele Sowore Advocates for Minimum Wage Increase

Rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has publicly supported a proposed minimum wage of 500,000 naira in Nigeria, while criticizing what he termed excessive expenditures by political leaders.

Sowore’s comments were made in a statement released on his official social media page. In the statement, he challenged the notion that Nigeria lacks the financial resources necessary to implement a higher minimum wage for workers.

He also referenced ongoing allegations related to Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and claims regarding campaign funding.

“There is money for politicians, so there must be money for workers,” Sowore stated, asserting that the demand for a 500,000 naira minimum wage is not the core issue. He contended that the real challenge lies with a political class that misappropriates public funds while millions of Nigerians endure hardship.

Sowore further emphasized that the nation’s economic difficulties are tied to corruption and mismanagement rather than a scarcity of financial resources.
