Abducted Oyo school principal sends distress message from captivity

Abducted School Principal Appeals for Help in Video

In a recently released video, abducted school principal Mrs. Alamu has appealed to government officials, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), and President Bola Tinubu for urgent intervention in her captivity.

Speaking from her location of confinement, Alamu described the dire conditions faced by teachers and students, who have endured harsh weather for weeks.

The video, which has circulated on social media, reveals that the abductors have become increasingly impatient and have threatened harm to one of the captives following a failed rescue attempt.

“Please help us. I am calling on the NUT to negotiate with them. You don’t need force; all they have to do is to speak with them and ensure our release. We are exposed to the cold and the sun,” she pleaded.

On May 15, 2026, multiple pupils and teachers were kidnapped from the Ahoro-Esinele and Yawota communities in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. A separate incident occurred simultaneously in a community within the Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, collectively resulting in the abduction of over 40 students.

Following the kidnappings, a teacher from Oyo State, identified as Michael Oyedokun, was reportedly killed by the bandits.
