Why Tinubu kept subsidy removal top secret before his swearing in- Shettima

Nigeria’s Vice President Discusses Fuel Subsidy Policy
LAGOS—Vice President Kashim Shettima provided insights on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to keep the removal of fuel subsidies confidential prior to his inauguration.
Shettima made these remarks on Friday during a visit to Lagos, where he led the Nigeria Governors’ Forum in paying Sallah homage to Tinubu.
He explained that the President chose to withhold this information to avoid potential pressure to alter his plans.
“Shettima stated, ‘You kept it a top secret… because you believe if you had incorporated it into your speech, some people would try to persuade you not to do so,’” emphasizing Tinubu’s commitment to his vision.
He characterized the decision as demonstrating “the courage of leadership” and a commitment to long-term goals.
