‘Improve or resign’ – Kano Governor Yusuf warns cabinet members

Kano State Governor Issues Ultimatum to Commissioners
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has delivered a stern warning to commissioners and special advisers in his administration, emphasizing the need for improved performance. The governor’s remarks came during the Hawan Nasarawa Sallah homage in Kano and were later detailed in a statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Yusuf stated that political appointees must justify the trust placed in them by demonstrating accountability and delivering measurable results. He highlighted that commitment to good governance is a cornerstone of his administration’s goals.
He urged members of the State Executive Council and other aides to recommit themselves to public service and contribute effectively to the state’s development objectives.
“Any appointee who fails to perform up to expectations should either improve or be ready to vacate office,” Yusuf declared. He emphasized that negligence or poor performance would not be tolerated.
Despite the warning, the governor commended Dahir Hashim, the Commissioner for Environment, for his hard work and innovative approach, noting that he is the youngest member of the State Executive Council. Yusuf praised Hashim for his commitment to enhancing government programs and improving communication between the administration and the public.
The governor reiterated his intention to recognize and reward those who excel in public service, reinforcing his administration’s focus on accountability and performance.
