Aiyedatiwa lauds judiciary as court hands down death penalty on Owo church attackers

Governor Aiyedatiwa Commends Court Ruling on Owo Church Attack
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has expressed strong support for the recent judgement by the Federal High Court, which imposed death sentences on four terrorists involved in the 2022 attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo.
In a statement released through his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, Aiyedatiwa praised the prosecution team and the judiciary’s efforts throughout the trial. He noted that this development signals the government’s firm stance against terrorism and violence directed at its citizens.
On June 5, 2022, gunmen opened fire on worshippers during Mass at the church, resulting in the deaths of at least 40 individuals and injuries to many others.
The Federal High Court in Abuja delivered its verdict on Wednesday, convicting four out of the five defendants on all nine counts of charges against them.
Aiyedatiwa described the court’s decision as a significant victory for justice and the rule of law, acknowledging the impact of the attack on victims and their families.
