Six Dead in Auto Crash Involving Military and Commercial Vehicles in Adamawa
GIREI, Adamawa State — An auto crash in the Narehi area of the Girei-Song Local Government Area has resulted in the deaths of six individuals, including members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
According to a statement from the Adamawa State police spokesman, Suleiman Nguroje, the incident occurred when a military gun truck traveling from Gombi to Yola collided head-on with a commercial Hummer bus transporting five passengers from Yola to Mubi.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the collision caused the Hummer bus to flip over and ignite. All five passengers aboard were pronounced dead at the scene due to the ensuing fire.
Initial identification of the deceased revealed that four were serving members of the NYSC stationed in Adamawa State. The identified corps members are Suleuman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both from Kaduna State. The identities of the remaining victims have yet to be confirmed.
Nguroje added that one military personnel associated with the gun truck also lost his life in the crash.
The bodies have been transported to Specialist Hospital in Yola, where efforts are ongoing to identify the other deceased and notify their families.
The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa extended condolences to the families of the victims, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the NYSC, acknowledging the profound impact of this tragic incident.
