Insecurity: Unlike Tinubu, Buhari restored govt control in Boko Haram-held areas —Dalung

Former Sports Minister Critiques Current Administration’s Handling of Security

Former Minister of Sports and Youth Development Solomon Dalung expressed criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s government for its approach to security in Nigeria. During an interview on Arise Television on Friday, Dalung contrasted Tinubu’s tenure with that of the late President Muhammadu Buhari.

Dalung asserted that Buhari achieved significant progress in reclaiming territory from Boko Haram, stating, “Despite criticism, Buhari restored government control in Boko Haram-held areas, unlike Tinubu.” He further claimed that Tinubu’s administration has failed to meet the expectations of Nigerians.

The former minister highlighted accomplishments under Buhari, particularly in security, noting that when Buhari assumed office, approximately 24 local government areas in the North-East were reportedly under Boko Haram’s control. According to Dalung, these territories were successfully reclaimed during Buhari’s administration, a point he cited as a key aspect of Buhari’s legacy despite subsequent security challenges.

Dalung characterized attempts to compare the two presidents as misplaced, emphasizing that Buhari’s achievements in restoring security set a different standard than what has been seen under Tinubu.
