Burna Boy refused to help me despite paving way for him, others – SkyB

Veteran Nigerian Musician SkyB Critiques Lack of Support from Port Harcourt Artists
Veteran Nigerian singer SkyB has expressed disappointment over the perceived lack of support from contemporary artists in Port Harcourt. In a recent episode of the KAA Truth podcast, the artist, known for his hit “Pray For Me,” discussed how he once played a pivotal role in promoting newer musicians, including Mr. 2Kay and Timaya.
SkyB, whose career has seen ups and downs, claimed that while he contributed significantly to the Port Harcourt music scene, many musicians have not reciprocated during his struggles. He noted that, despite not directly assisting Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy, he feels the younger artist should have reached out to help him regain his footing through collaborations or financial support.
“I once referred an artist to the Governor’s personal assistant for a performance, but the artist declined, stating he did not want to share the stage with me,” SkyB said. “These are individuals I once supported in their careers. We invested significant resources to uplift the Port Harcourt music industry.”
SkyB voiced particular frustration toward Burna Boy, contending that the rising star has overlooked those who laid the groundwork for the city’s music landscape. He remarked, “It is disheartening that he does not remember those of us who have championed Port Harcourt music. If I were from a different ethnic background, perhaps assistance would have been more forthcoming.”
The artist’s reflections underscore ongoing challenges within the Nigerian music industry, particularly concerning mentorship and mutual support among its members.
