Woman suffers fractures as hit-and-run driver escapes in Lagos — LASTMA

Woman Injured in Hit-and-Run on Lekki-Epe Expressway
A woman sustained serious injuries on Monday after being struck by a hit-and-run driver along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officials promptly intervened, securing the scene and arranging for urgent medical treatment.
The incident occurred near the EFF Bus Stop, as the unidentified motorist fled the scene, leaving the injured woman on the roadway with a fractured arm and leg. LASTMA officials, tasked with traffic monitoring in the area, quickly responded to the emergency.
Traffic officers ensured the victim’s safety by moving her away from potential hazards and contacted the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) for immediate assistance. In addition, they implemented traffic control measures to prevent further accidents and facilitate smooth vehicle movement on the busy corridor.
Emergency responders from LASAMBUS arrived shortly after and transported the woman to General Hospital, Odan, for urgent medical care.
LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed alarm over the rising number of hit-and-run incidents on Lagos roads. He emphasized the legal and moral obligations of motorists to remain at the scene of accidents, stating, “Fleeing the scene of an accident after causing injury to another road user is not only an abdication of responsibility but also a grievous affront to humanity and the rule of law.”
Bakare-Oki reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to enhancing road safety and effective emergency response measures throughout the state. He praised the collaboration between LASTMA and LASAMBUS, highlighting their swift actions in assisting the victim and restoring normal traffic flow.
The agency urged all motorists to exercise caution while driving, adhere to traffic regulations, and report accidents to the appropriate authorities to ensure prompt responses.
