Friendly: Portugal clash big test for Super Eagles – Ndidi

Super Eagles Captain Prepares for Challenging Friendly Against Portugal
LEIRIA, Portugal — Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi stated that Wednesday’s friendly match against Portugal represents a significant test for his team.
Under the guidance of head coach Éric Chelle, Nigeria’s national squad enters the match with a positive outlook, having secured four victories and two draws in their last six games. Notably, the Super Eagles have lost just once in regulation over the past 24 matches since Chelle assumed leadership in January 2025.
Portugal, set to compete in the World Cup, is expected to pose a formidable challenge for the three-time African champions. Despite this, Ndidi expressed confidence in his team’s readiness.
“It will be a very good test for us,” Ndidi said during a press conference in Leiria on Tuesday. “We faced our first test against Poland, and Portugal is a great team with excellent players.”
He emphasized the importance of the match for team growth and objectives. “It will be a massive test for us as a group, to our vision, our aim as a team, and to our growth. It will definitely be a good test for us.”
Ndidi noted that the identity of the opponent does not deter his squad. “We don’t care who we are playing against, even if it’s the biggest countries in the world. The most important thing is that as players, we are ready to win. We look forward to implementing our philosophy and strategy in the game.”
Historically, Nigeria has struggled against Portugal, suffering a 4-0 defeat in their previous encounter four years ago.
