After weeks of blackout, relief power returns to Bida communities

Residents in Bida, Niger State, Experience Relief as Electricity Supply Resumes
BIDA, Niger State — Residents in several communities within the Bida Local Government Area are expressing relief following the gradual restoration of electricity supply after weeks of sustained outages. The interruptions had significantly disrupted both economic and social activities in the region.
Communities affected by the outages include Darachita, Bangaie, Low Cost, Kobo Area, Federal Medical Centre Quarters, Polytechnic Layout, and Cabs Layout. Residents endured prolonged darkness until repair efforts began on the Barrack Feeders network.
The resurgence of electricity was made possible by the arrival of crucial materials, such as poles and cables, provided by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC). Technicians have since commenced repairs and the reconnection of power lines.
Local residents welcomed the restoration, emphasizing the adverse impact the outage had on businesses, household operations, and public services. Many attributed the successful repair efforts to ongoing discussions between the Niger State Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy and AEDC, which facilitated the swift delivery of necessary materials to the area.
Community leaders commended Suleiman Umar, the Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, for his efforts in maintaining pressure on relevant authorities and overseeing the initiative to restore electricity to the affected regions.
Additionally, residents recognized the role of various stakeholders in coordinating between the state government and AEDC, which contributed to the ongoing repairs.
Residents noted that these developments reflect the administration of Niger State Governor Umar Mohammed Bago’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and public service delivery throughout the state.
In a statement regarding the recent progress, Umar assured residents that the state government would continue to collaborate with pertinent agencies to improve electricity supply and address challenges affecting local communities.
For many residents, the sight of repair teams actively working in their neighborhoods has reignited hopes for a stable power supply and improved living conditions.
