The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, announced on Wednesday that two suspected bandits were killed in an operation targeting a gang responsible for a series of attacks in the capital.

Sanusi, who led the operation, made the announcement during a press briefing at police headquarters. This operation was initiated following the recent abduction of five residents from the Paze community in the Byazhin ward of the Bwari Area Council.

The abduction occurred last Thursday when armed assailants, including a local vigilante member named Shuaibu Yerima, invaded the community. In the ensuing chaos, Yerima was shot dead.

According to Sanusi, law enforcement rescue teams, which included the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the National Police Force’s Intelligence Response Team, and the Kubwa Area Command, worked in collaboration with local hunters and vigilante groups to recover the kidnapped individuals. The five victims were located and saved during the raid.

During the operation, two suspects were arrested, identified as Icheh Mohammadu and Abubakar Usman. Other gang members escaped into nearby hills. The police also seized two AK-47 rifles with magazines at the scene.

Sanusi stated that the operation commenced at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, with a focus on extensive search and clearance efforts in the Paze and Byazhin communities.

He confirmed that the rescued victims have been taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation, and efforts are underway to reunite them with their families.
