Police Foil Kidnapping Plot, Two Suspects Arrested

Operatives from the Obalende Division of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended two individuals suspected of planning to kidnap a Chinese national along the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu Expressway.

The suspects, identified as 41-year-old Chinedu Onwuemena and 37-year-old Jimoh Ojo, were arrested on Monday at approximately 5:30 p.m.

According to police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the arrests came after the Divisional Police Officer received credible intelligence regarding the kidnapping plot. Following this, the officer mobilized a team, including surveillance personnel, to the designated area where the suspects were intercepted.

Initial investigations revealed that the two men conspired to abduct the victim and demanded a ransom of ₦50 million. Babaseyi noted that Onwuemena, who was employed as an interpreter and driver for the company, allegedly used his position to facilitate the criminal scheme.

Additionally, authorities have determined that the pair may have acted in collaboration with an accomplice who remains at large. Efforts are underway to locate and apprehend this individual, and investigations continue to uncover the broader criminal network involved in the plot.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the quick response and professionalism of the Obalende Division operatives, emphasizing that their actions prevented a serious kidnapping incident. He reiterated the importance of timely intelligence and reaffirmed the Ogun State Police Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive measures against criminal activities that threaten public safety and peace.
