2027: Atiku may pick Aregbesola as running mate if Tinubu retains Shettima – Sam Amadi

Former NERC Chairman Analyzes 2027 Vice Presidential Race
Former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Sam Amadi, has weighed in on the potential dynamics of the 2027 vice presidential race, emphasizing the influence of President Bola Tinubu’s ticket decisions.
In a recent post on X, Amadi suggested that if Tinubu retains Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate, it could prompt former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to consider former Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola as his own candidate for vice president.
Atiku represents the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the upcoming election.
Amadi indicated that such a pairing could significantly alter political strategizing in the Southwest region ahead of the 2027 general elections. He posited that an Atiku-Aregbesola ticket might adopt a Muslim-Muslim formula aimed at securing votes from the Southwest, although he noted that other Southern regions could be less receptive to this strategy.
“In the event that Tinubu retains Shettima, Atiku may be compelled to select Aregbesola to enhance his appeal in the Southwest,” Amadi stated. “The vote landscape elsewhere in the South appears less favorable.”
In related news, the DAILY POST previously reported that Atiku has chosen former Transportation Minister Chibuike Amaechi as his running mate. This decision was confirmed on Saturday by Sampson, the immediate past chairman of the ADC in Rivers State. Amaechi had previously contested in the ADC presidential primary but was defeated by Atiku.
