Anambra State Government Places 10-Year-Old Boy in Protective Care Following Alleged Guardian Assault
AWADA, Anambra State — The Anambra State Government has confirmed that a 10-year-old boy, reportedly assaulted by his guardian in Awada, Obosi, is now in protective care.
A viral video on social media depicted the child with severe injuries and scalded skin, allegedly inflicted by his guardian and her husband. The specific reasons for this maltreatment were not disclosed. Another video circulating online showed local residents confronting the couple at their home, expressing outrage over the alleged torture.
In a statement posted on social media, Esther Chinyere Onyekesi, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, reported that the boy is currently receiving medical treatment. She thanked the community for bringing the situation to authorities’ attention and confirmed that both she and the women’s leader from Awosi visited the child.
“The offenders must face the law for this barbaric act. If you see something, please say something,” Onyekesi stated.
As of now, it remains unclear whether the alleged perpetrators have been apprehended by law enforcement officials.
