ADC Names Amaechi as Atiku’s Running Mate for 2027 Presidential Election

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially appointed Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation and former Governor of Rivers State, as its vice-presidential candidate for the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
Amaechi will partner with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on the ADC ticket. This decision comes after extensive consultations with party stakeholders nationwide and follows the conclusion of the party’s presidential primary election, where Amaechi finished as runner-up.
“The National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is proud to announce that the Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has been selected as the Vice-Presidential Candidate of our great party for the 2027 Presidential Election,” the party stated.
The ADC characterized the collaboration between Atiku and Amaechi as a union of “two tested statesmen,” emphasizing their combined experience and national appeal to address Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
“The proposed partnership represents more than a political alliance; it signifies the coming together of two leaders equipped with the experience, national reach, and leadership capacity necessary to assist Nigeria in overcoming its current difficulties,” the statement continued.
The party highlighted Amaechi’s extensive credentials, citing his roles as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of Rivers State, and Minister of Transportation, asserting that few political leaders in Nigeria today hold such diverse and extensive experience across both legislative and executive branches.
The ADC further remarked that Amaechi’s influence in the South-South region and other areas in Southern Nigeria would enhance the presidential ticket’s strength and broaden its appeal across the nation.
The ADC expressed confidence that this alliance would bolster its coalition ahead of the 2027 election, positioning it as a credible alternative focused on economic recovery, security, job creation, and national unity.
