Ambrose Alli University Cancels Examination After Wild Jubilation Incident
EKPOMA, Nigeria — Ambrose Alli University (AAU) has canceled the MCB 414 examination for final-year students in the Department of Microbiology following reports of student misconduct.
The university’s management issued the cancellation just two days after Registrar Oluwayomi O. Agbebaku warned students against “wild jubilation” after their final examinations. In a statement dated September 16, addressed to all Deans, Heads of Departments, and students, Agbebaku described any celebratory or unruly behavior that could lead to illegal activities as unacceptable.
The statement, which outlined the prohibition of such behavior, emphasized that celebrations would not be tolerated within or outside the campus.
On September 18, the university announced the cancellation of the MCB 414 exam, also known as Anti-Microbial Agents and Chemotherapy. The decision came after accusations that students disregarded the earlier warning issued by the university management.
In her announcement, Agbebaku indicated that students had been reminded of the prohibition prior to the examination but chose to engage in activities that violated the directive. “Accordingly, the University Management has decided that the examination be cancelled,” she stated.
Agbebaku emphasized that this measure aims to deter future violations by the student body, warning that stricter penalties would be instituted for any department that breaches the regulations in the future.
In the wake of the incident, the university has advised students to use the designated car park outside the university gate for easier access to the campus. The administration has also outlined specific actions that constitute wild jubilation, including parades involving vehicles, pouring water or drinks, consuming alcohol, and other potentially disruptive behaviors.
Students have been encouraged to reserve their celebrations for the upcoming convocation ceremony.
