Customs convenes security summit over attacks in Kebbi border communities

Nigeria Customs Service Holds Security Summit to Tackle Terrorism in Kebbi State
Kebbi State, Nigeria — The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) convened a security summit on Thursday at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi, addressing the ongoing threat of terrorist and criminal attacks in border communities.
The inaugural summit attracted representatives from various security agencies, traditional leaders, and government officials. Participants aimed to discuss strategies to enhance security and safeguard lives and property in the region.
Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, Comptroller-General of Customs, was represented by Deputy Comptroller Timi Bomadi. He emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration among key stakeholders, including the military, police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Department of State Services (DSS).
“Security reports indicate that our personnel, alongside civilians, have suffered casualties due to persistent attacks by bandits and terrorists on checkpoints in border areas of Kebbi State,” Bomadi stated.
He explained that the summit is part of a broader initiative by the Customs headquarters to engage with stakeholders in affected regions and develop effective strategies to mitigate criminal activities.
Mahmoud Ibrahim Matawalle, the Customs Area Comptroller in Kebbi, praised Governor Nasir Idris for his support of security efforts in the state, including the approval to host the summit. Matawalle also highlighted the governor’s donation of two operational vehicles to bolster surveillance in border communities.
He assured attendees that the NCS would continue its partnership with other security agencies to enhance security across Kebbi State.
