Troops Rescue Injured Herders in Plateau State Attack
BASSA, Plateau State — Soldiers from Operation Enduring Peace have successfully rescued two herders injured during an attack allegedly carried out by militia members in the Bassa Local Government Area.
The incident unfolded on June 18 at approximately 5:30 p.m. near the Rafin Bauna community, where the herders were reportedly ambushed while tending to their livestock.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported on social media that troops from Sector 3 responded quickly after receiving a distress call about the attack.
“The prompt response of the troops prevented the situation from escalating and facilitated the safe evacuation of the victims for urgent medical care,” a source stated.
Upon reaching the location, soldiers encountered the attackers, who fled the scene. The troops then conducted a thorough search of the area before rescuing the injured herders.
The victims have been identified as Yusuf Isiaku, who sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder, and Mubarak Lawan, who suffered minor injuries. Both individuals were transported to a nearby hospital and are currently receiving treatment.
In the aftermath of the attack, security agencies have initiated efforts to locate and apprehend those responsible.
