Ekiti State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, commended voters for their participation in the recent gubernatorial election held on June 20. Afuye praised citizens for their patriotism as they turned out in large numbers to fulfill their civic duty.
Speaking from her polling unit in Ikere Ekiti, Afuye recognized the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies in facilitating a peaceful election environment.
After casting her vote at approximately 8:50 a.m., Afuye expressed her satisfaction with the turnout, noting that the active participation of voters reflects a maturation of Nigeria’s democracy. “The enthusiastic response demonstrates that the rigorous campaigns we conducted have yielded positive results,” she stated.
Afuye urged all political actors to adhere to electoral regulations established by INEC to maintain the peaceful atmosphere that characterized the election process from the beginning through to the vote count.
She highlighted the widespread participation across various local governments, asserting that the conduct of the electorate showed commitment to the democratic process.
When asked about the election’s outcome, Afuye expressed confidence in the performance of the APC candidate, incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji. “Governor Oyebanji has served Ekiti diligently and is expected to win by a significant margin,” she remarked.
The election aims to select a governor to lead the state through 2030.
